I offer today an absolutely stunning American (Waltham) Watch Company - High Grade 15 jewel keywind Crescent Street pocket watch that is over 150 years old!!

This watch is an extremely large and very heavy 18 size mens\' open face case that is in amazing condition for its age. This watch is one the oldest I have had in my possession. A watch like this should be the cornerstone of any Early American collector because of the age, history and the fact that is one of the earliest and Most Highest grades produced by Waltham – a keywind Crescent Street grade. This was the first watch to be officially advertised for Rail Road use in America - What an exciting find!
The watch has so many amazing features! The movement is a Model 1870 and is a 15 Jewel – check out the size of the jewelling! It is a full plate, gilded movement with the gilding being in terrific condition. The balance cock also shows spectacular hand engraving which adds to the beauty of this movement. The Crescent Street Grade watch was one of Waltham\'s highest grade watches of that era.
The case is constructed of Nickel Silver and is a later addition. It is 100% functional and complements the watch appropriately. Check out the photos and you will see the great condition of this case - considering it’s age, this watch must have not had much use. This case is just massive and amazing to hold in your hand. The case is nearly 60mm in diameter!!! The case has no dents but it does need a bath - most of what you see is attributable to the poor lighting I utilized while photographing. All 3 case lid hinges are tight and open and close well. The hinges are firm and all case lids close with no gaps showing which is fantastic for a case of this age. The case has great solid hinges and the Original Bow is intact and tight.
The single sunk dial is has a few tight hairlines and the seconds bit needs re-pasted. The crystal is also in clear condition with just a few minor scratches. The Roman Numerials are still very clear and in ‘like new’ condition. The dial is correctly marked ‘American Watch Co’ and the watch carries its original \"Butterfly\" hands, which were reserved only for their highest grade models.
This watch is key set and key wind. The watch has not been serviced and needs a staff and a mainspring
