These microphones came from a friend\'s father\'s estate. They were part of a collection of vintage radio and recording electronics stored in his workshop in the basement. They look to be in very very good condition.
Not being a vintage crystal microphone expert, I connected them to a standard microphone preamp set at 40 dB gain and they both did output signal, but the output was not much. I later learned that the crystal elements require a high impedance preamp input, so I connected each mic to a high impedance oscilloscope input (10M ohms) and I was able to get about 2 volts peak to peak when I whistled directly into each mic. Without any further testing it would appear that these mics may be usable.
The fabric wind screens appear completely sound and void of any holes or tears with one possible exception as shown in the closeup picture. I am not sure if this is a hole or just a fold in the fabric. The dark star-shaped stain also in the closeup picture is not a stain at all, but a reflection of the ceiling fan (that can be seen in several of the other pictures).
I did not disassemble them to look inside, but I assume the insides are all original. There are only very few, and light surface scratches on the mics. One mic had some masking tape residue on it which I was able to nearly 100% remove with alcohol.
