History of the B-800 / B-800A / B-800Bc
The aluminum cone B-800, years later renamed to be theB-800A, was first used as a stand-alone full-range speaker for the Bard, butwas soon adopted in modified form as midrange-optimized driver in the otherBozak line. It was subsequently modified to become the full-range B-800B /B-800Bc.
The Bc is a ceramic magnet, whereas the B is alnico. The B-800 andB-800A (again, same driver the A was just made in later years) are bothalnicos, and were specially damped for use as a midrange, so that when thedriver was un-damped for use as a full-range driver the designation of theB-800 damped unit without a suffix acquired an A suffix.
The original B-800 / B-800A only goes down to 100 Hz,a known limitation carried over into the B-801 speaker which used a singleB-800 (it predates the A) and a dual B-200X tweeter. Later B-800B / B-800Bcunits went down to approximately 50 Hz. I don\'t know what differences exist atthe upper end of the frequency response curve.
