Available for purchase are my personal Infinity RS II speakers. I have had them since1982. I do not have theowner’s manual (which can be downloaded from the Internet). The speakers have been in light use for theentire time and work flawlessly (and beautifully). Approximately 12 years ago I had the basespeakers re-coned by a shop in Rockville, MD.

Letme be honest right up front – I am not an audiophile techie and most of theinformation below was captured off the Internet. But I’ve always loved great music and greatequipment – hence the Infinity RS IIs.

Backin the late 70' and early 80's Infinity made a series of speakers named theQuantum Series. They were the firstInfinity speakers to have the famed EMIT tweeters and Watkins Woofers. The line evolved into the Reference Seriesthat included the industry's first polypropylene woofers, 20 years ahead oftheir time. They offered improvedtransient response to avoid distortion, or coloration. The secret of these great speakers was theEMIT Tweeter, which stands for Electro Magnetic Induction Tweeter. They used very powerful Samarium Cobaltmagnets covered by a thin diaphragm. Itwas a ribbon style tweeter that was very light, thin, and super fast. They had the most crystal clear high end everreproduced by any speaker. Eventuallythese EMIT tweeters evolved into ribbon midranges and even upper bass drivers. Some of the models used what is known as aWatkins Woofer, which has a special dual voice coil to better handle thedifferent frequencies the low end. Ifyou had a Watkins Woofer back then, you never even thought of needing asubwoofer! William H. Watkins designed and patented these voice coil woofers. Thesewere truly great speakers.

These speakers are solid oak and oak veneer. They have a naturaloiled finish. As seems to be common withthese speakers, there is some slight chipping o the veneer at the flooredge. Also, one of the support legsbroke off and I reattached it with screws (both conditions shown in photos). The cloth on both front grills needs replacingas do the wooden frames upon which the cloth is mounted.

Each speaker has 2 x 10" poly woofers, 3 x 5" polymid's and 2 x EMIT tweeters, one rear firing.

The RS-II used poly-coned midranges. The later version (the RS-IIA/B) switchedover to EMIMs just like the RS-1. The IIA'sand IIB's use the Emim mid-range drivers and both are bi wire/bi amp ready andcome with their own outboard crossover. TheRS II's use conventional cone and coil drivers and are not bi wire/bi ampcapable with internal crossovers. Remember that RS II's are 4 ohm.

Shipping

Shipping will be a dilemma for this item. The speakers will need to be crated securelyto avoid any damage. In checking withUPS, I was told they will need to ship as freight due to their weight andsize. I was told they would costapproximately $550.

1.I willprovide free pick-up at my home in central Maryland (21704). This option would include the winning buyerarranging for a company of their choosing to retrieve, pack and ship thesystem; or the winning buyer picking them up personally.

2.A secondoption would be that I could load the system in my SUV and personally deliverthem to the winning buyer. I wouldoffer this option to anyone within 500 miles of my location for a one-way feeof $1.00 per mile (e.g. from Frederick MD to Boston is 453 miles = $453).

3.I will contacta “crate and freight” company in this area and arrange crating and shipping andwill issue you a PayPal invoice for the actual amount.

4.I willconsider other options. Contact mebefore you offer.

Return Policy

You should examine your purchase immediately upondelivery. If the packaging is damaged,keep it for inspection by shipper.
