Face Text:
Shaanxi Governor General\'s Office: In order to issue silver bills, it has been noted that since the rise of the Shaanxi Provincial Army, the treasury has been depleted, and the monthly salaries of each battalion cannot be fully paid. In addition to the monthly agreed cash payment for military pay, it is also necessary to issue a 30% bank note as a gesture of sympathy. This ticket is only allowed to be presented to the Shaanxi Provincial Donation Bureau and paid with real money. Except for the donation of Lingzhi and prefectures and counties, which are not allowed to be used together, all actual duties, false titles, tribute supervision, promotion, records, seals, and other items reported for donation are allowed to be redeemed with half of the real money and half of the silver ticket. All expenses of the food and photo bureau are still paid with real money, and passengers who need to travel to the ticket are not allowed. Sent on December 15th, the sixth year of the Tongzhi reign.
In October of the fifth year of the Tongzhi reign (1866), the Western Nian Army transferred to Shaanxi, contacted the Hui People\'s Volunteer Army, and directly took Xi\'an, facing the city. By the beginning of the following year, Xi\'an was liberated. In order to subsidize military pay, the Shaanxi Provincial Governor General\'s Office issued military pay silver tickets in addition to the official tickets issued by the Ministry of Revenue. In December of the sixth year of the Tongzhi reign (early 1868), military pay silver tickets were printed and issued, with four denominations of Kuping silver: 1 liang, 3 liang, 5 liang, and 10 liang (see also 1 liang issued on March 13 of the seventh year of the Tongzhi reign). This ticket was issued on a very short date, and currently, there are no more than two to three surviving coins of each type, which is rare.
The Nian Army was a peasant uprising army in the northern region during the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom period, originating from Nianzi (also known as the Nian Party). \"Nian\" is a dialect of Huaibei, meaning a group of people. Nianzi is a secret organization of the people. In 1853 (the third year of the Xianfeng reign), Nianzi launched a large-scale uprising under the influence of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. After the uprising, Nianzi was known as the Nian Army in the historical community. The Nian Army Uprising lasted for sixteen years from 1853 to 1868, and its history was divided into two stages: the early Nian Army from the spring of 1853 to March 1863, and the late Nian Army from April 1863 to August 1868. After the early failure of the Nian army, the remaining troops were active in the border areas of Henan, Hubei, and Shaanxi. Starting from October 1866, it was divided into two armies: the East and the West. Lai Wenguang and Ren Zhu continued to operate in the Central Plains region, serving as the Eastern Nian Army; Zhang Zongyu and Zhang Zhuo entered the West to connect with the Hui uprising and became the Western Nian Army. In 1867, the Eastern Nian Army shifted to Hubei and defeated the main force of the Huai Army, Liu Mingchuan\'s troops. However, their attempt to enter Sichuan, Shaanxi, and meet the Western Nian Army was unsuccessful. In June of the same year, Henan entered Shandong and was later besieged by Li Hongzhang\'s Huai Army on the south bank of the Yellow River, the east bank of the canal, the west bank of the Jiaolai River, and the north bank of the Liutang River. The breakthrough failed, and Ren Zhu was killed by spies. The remaining troops were defeated in January of the following year in Yangzhou, Jiangsu, and Lai Wenguang was captured and sacrificed. After being besieged by Li Hongzhang\'s Huai army, the Western Nian army went east to rescue. In January 1868, Dong Nian\'s entire army was destroyed in Jiaolai River, Shandong. In July, Xi Nian was besieged by the Huai Army in northwest Shandong. In August, during the Battle of Chiping, Xi Nian was defeated, and Zhang Zongyu\'s crossing of the Haihe River was unknown. Thus, the Nian Rebellion failed.Attention
