This tool from Alisam Engineering is areproduction* of South Bend Lathe Works cutter bit grinding block not in production for many years!
Each grinding block will come with all 5 square tool bit holders!
Tool holders come in 5 different sizes, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2 inch to fit most quality, ground, squaremodern tool bits, (using the 3/16\" tool holder and drilling the appropriate sized hole, round tool bits may also be ground). Now available in very limited supply, a \"blank\" tool holder (purchased separately NOT included with this set unless exchanged for one of the other sized tool holders). Purchaser must bore a hole to the specs they desire. No returns on \"blank\" holders unless unaltered. Blank tool holder also sold separately in another listing.
(*We have increased the capacity of the tool holders by addingthe 1/2 inch square tool bit size which was not available from SBL, in doing so weincreased the overall size of the block and the diameter of the tool holders by about .19 inch. Thus our tool holders will NOT interchange with the original without turning down their OD*). Also comes with complete, detailed, easy instructionswith cutter bit data sheet and an Allen wrench.

Use it on tool bits for ANY lathe OR metal shaperusing the 3/16 to 1/2 inch square cutter bits such as, Atlas, Craftsman, Logan, Monarch, Hardinge, Enco, Emco, Prazi, Ammco, and the Chinese imports, (9 X 20 and such).
The ease at which a machinist can now grind very accurate compound angles on their square tool bits / cutter bits is without comparison! Place your cutter bit in the appropriate sized tool holder, rotate the center tool holder to achieve the desired side / back / top rake angle, lock set screw and grind on your grinder or belt / disc sander! The block automatically creates a 10 degree clearance angle just like the original, (but may be placed flat to achieve a small degree of front clearance). See pics.!
