Vintage 1994 Mickey Mouse Streetwear Levi Jeans
Intro/Background:
Although not well known, TOO CUTE Jeans brand began in 1987, founded by Patrick Guetta and his brother Thierry Gutta, also known as Mr. Brainwash, the French graffiti artist who first came to notoriety in Banksy’s 2010 British documentary film Exit Through The Gift Shop which was directed by Banksy.
The Guetta brothers came from an apparel family, so the foray into the retail business was already in their blood.
According to California Apparel News, “Patrick Guetta and his brother Marc Guetta owned the World of Vintage T-shirts store on Los Angeles’ Melrose Avenue. In 2010, Tashen published a book, called Vintage T-shirts, featuring some of the Guetta’s favorite styles from their collection.
“Following the publication of the book and the release of the film ‘Exit Through the Giftshop,’ Patrick Guetta left the vintage T-shirt business to assist Thierry Guetta in his art career.
“But as Mr. Brainwash’s notoriety grew, so did interest from around the world. The artist finally consented to allow his brother to produce a few exclusive T-shirts and sweatshirts for sale on the Mr. Brainwash website.
“Patrick Guetta’s background includes the early days of producing the Mr. Brainwash shows to the “Vintage T-shirt” book and retail store to his early days producing the
TOO CUTE apparel line, which sold in stores such as Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Sharper Image. The apparel line, which launched in 1987 and continued for 13 years, featured apparel with images of cartoon characters.”
The Jeans:
These jeans are an authentic, beautiful example of the Mickey Mouse jeans produced by the Guetta brothers.
With four different Mickey Mouse embroidered cartoons (three on the front and one on the back), the distressed washed-denim jeans are an excellent example of the extraordinarily popular brand. Although there are a few of the Mickey Mouse Guetta Jeans left, many are odd sizes or not well-preserved.
The colors in the embroidered patches on these jeans are as one would expect and indeed prefer in a vintage jean: Weathered but still brilliant, with no rips or tears.
The jeans themselves are the “patched and worn” design, soft and comfortable, with the “old jeans” look that many try but fail to re-create on newer versions.
The jeans bear a “Made In U.S.A.” tag sewn in the waistband underneath the colorful “TOO CUTE!” trademark tag written above the name “Guetta Brothers” — the signature of authenticity.
An added bonus to these jeans is that they are manufactured by Levis — the “tried and true” standard when it comes to blue jeans. Manufactured in the U.S., their longevity comes with the indestructibility of the Levis Brand. The jeans are tagged inside with the “Levi’s For Men” branding, although, as is most often the case, women favor the fit of men’s jeans more than those designed specifically for them. It’s the “loose fit” that has always been the hallmark of cool and comfort.
The back of the jeans feature a large leather patch that reads: “TOO CUTE” with the words underneath: “Don’t Worry Wear Happy! Made in the United States of America.”
The zipper on the jeans is in tact and functions beautifully. The silver button at the waste reads “TOO CUTE.”
And they ARE too cute! Mickey with thumbs up, Mickey in sunglasses, Mikey raising a drink — they are the jeans that say “let’s go have some fun!”
