The pilot burner received was a genuine Carrier part identical to the original which came in my furnace. The only difference was it's stamped manufacture date, it being later than the original 25 year old one. Was fairly easy to replace and I ended up re-using the original spark igniter with it. Also had to swap over the original mounting bracket from the old one to remount it back in place of the old pilot burner. Just make sure to turn off the power to the furnace and shut off the gas as you have to disconnect and reconnect it to the new one. Be careful about losing the orifice bushing as it can fall out when the flare nut that comes on it is removed to reuse the old one on the gas tube. Replacement took about 40 minutes to do and just a little tricky to get everything realigned back to it's original configuration. Now hoping that this one lasts 25 years like the original did.Read full review

Bryant/Carrier stopped making part # LH680005 which was originally spec'd for some of their older furnaces. They recommend this 3rd party supplier and part number as the replacement. It looks to be exactly the same, good quality except for one major issue. It does not come with the igniter module but that is not the issue as those seldom go bad, can simply have the tip cleaned off with emery paper or steel wool if needed. The problem is that this Robertshaw replacement part has the mounting slot for the igniter module, slightly too far forward so the igniter module sits closer to the tip of this part, making a shorter spark which may not always be effective in igniting the gas. The solution is to use a tiny round file or dremel sized (about 5/32" or smaller but the size can vary slightly) router bit (I used a nickel plated diamond bit) to extend the mounting slot further back so it positions the igniter at the same distance as it was on the original part. This is an easy modification to do and your best bet for a replacement part. You can get the generic version of this, marketed under various names that even includes a new igniter but reviews of that showed it had spotty quality. I hesitate to review this part so soon because I've only had it installed 12 days, but I'd probably forget to do so if I waited much longer and so far it has fixed the problem my furnace had which was that it would try to come on, not sense the flame, and go into lockout so it wouldn't light the burners and had to be power cycled before it would try again. Sometimes it would work fine for a few days then lockout again. This is a very common problem on these old Bryant/Carrier/etc units that use a bimetallic strip to trigger a switch instead of the newer design that uses a separate flame sensor rod. The instructions state that you need to use the new orifice and nut. My furnace gas pipe to it, did not have enough slack to cut off the old nut to use the new one, would have been too short. I reused the old nut still on the pipe, the new orifice, put a tiny bit of pipe dope on the old nut sealing face, and then tested for leaks to be sure it was air (gas) tight. These really are annoying to install for what they are due to the poor access angles. It was easier for my 398AAV furnace to just bite the bullet and pull the whole bottom cover off the enclosure, being careful not to mangle the spark ignition wire too much as it is a bit fragile once it gets this old.Read full review

It is said this particular part, the pilot assembly, is failure prone. So it was on a 30-year-old furnace. The igniter was clicking and sparking after it should have been quiet. I guessed that the bimetallic element in the pilot was getting dodgy, so replaced the assembly with this one. That did the trick. The unit arrived in a Carrier plastic bag, but the bag was not sealed. The replacement pilot fit perfectly in the old spot. The job only took about 20 minutes. I'm happy.

Very good quality and exactly the same as original part, after i installed it works at first try, i ordered on Friday and get it on Monday morning, if you want to make sure this is your failed part in you furnace turn on your furnace and jump the yellow and white wires and wait for 2 o 3 minutes until your burners come on.
