I tested both of these and they both work the one no needs to be plugged or has AC going to it instead of the batteries which I did with a kind of a I can\'t remember what they\'re called. I\'m including everything you see here I tried to take a picture of what\'s inside the upgrade. You\'ll get two of the flashes you\'re going to get the four filters the attachment bar everything that\'s pictured is going to be included I figured might as well put both of them and the one with the shoe mounts and the other one cuz I wasn\'t positive with the one was that\'s why I had some help looking it up but I figured you keep them together if you have any questions do not have said to ask I\'m sure you camera guys out there know exactly what you\'re looking at.
What you have there is a highly modified/custom DIY setup built out of a standard Vivitar 285HV flash.
The original hot shoe foot has been completely removed and replaced with a custom-built, chunky black adapter block that mounts a 5/8\" lighting spigot/stud with a 1/4\"-20 threaded tip. This allows the flash to be screwed directly onto a standard light stand, boom arm, or custom bracket instead of sliding into a camera hot shoe.
Inside that custom block, you can see someone manually spliced and routed heavy-gauge red and green wires, which bypass the internal battery compartment to wire directly into that Alden 163-25 V plug attached to the back.
Why did someone build this?
External Power Supply / High-Voltage Pack: Alden connectors are heavily insulated and traditionally used in high-voltage electronics (like vintage studio strobe packs or specialized medical/industrial gear). The user likely modified this flash to run off an industrial-grade external power pack or a custom AC wall adapter rather than burning through AA batteries.
Heavy-Duty Studio Rigging: The beefy metal spigot ensures that the flash won\'t snap off under the weight of a heavy studio umbrella, softbox, or heavy-duty rigging equipment.
