Pair of vintage mid-century modern high-back armchairs by Broyhill / Lenoir Chair Company of Lenoir, North Carolina.
These distinctive chairs feature unusually tall sculptural wooden backs with broad curved crests and substantial center splats that taper toward the seats. Open areas along either side emphasize the dramatic shape of the backs and create a strong architectural appearance.
Additional details include shaped wooden arms, squared front supports, long tapered legs, and upholstered seats in a muted green patterned textile.
An original manufacturer’s label remains underneath and reads “Manufactured by Lenoir Chair Company, Lenoir, North Carolina.” Lenoir Chair Company was established by J.E. Broyhill and formed the foundation of the furniture business that developed into Broyhill Furniture Industries.
We have not assigned the chairs to a specific named Broyhill collection without documentation establishing that attribution.
