These recollections belong to Sophie A. Satina, a remarkable Russian woman and the cousin of composer S. V. Rachmaninoff. A talented botanist, Satina studied and assisted at the Higher Women\'s Courses, and after the revolution, she emigrated to Washington, where she continued her career.

Previously unpublished memoirs, printed in a limited number of copies and distributed to close friends after her death. This makes them a rare and valuable document for Slavic studies scholars, historians of Russia, and bibliographers.
