2 TONED. Custom Apple iPod Video 5.5th Gen (Enhanced) — Solid Brass Boxy Pixel MK2 Edition/ Half Brass Half Aluminum
Storage: 512GB iFlash SSD | Battery: 3800mAh | Charging: USB-C Integrated
Available now is a one-of-a-kind, precision-crafted Apple iPod Video (5.5 Gen) housed in an unfinished solid brass Boxy Pixel MK1 chassis. Fully overhauled, bench-tested, and built using top-tier aftermarket hardware, this device seamlessly fuses classic retro hardware with modern performance upgrades.
Overview of Mods & Specs
* Solid Brass Chassis: Machined from raw, solid brass by Boxy Pixel. Because these MK2 shells are manufactured in small runs, they remain exceptionally rare. The unfinished metal surface will naturally acquire a distinct, custom patina with daily handling.
* 512GB High-Speed Flash Upgrade: Replaced the original mechanical hard drive with an iFlash card adapter and 500GB of flash memory. This setup drastically lowers total weight, delivers faster indexing, and protects data against shock/drops.
* Extended 3800mAh Battery: Upgraded to a massive 3800mAh cell (compared to the factory 600mAh unit), offering multi-day battery life between charges.
* Dedicated USB-C Charging: Retrofitted with a dedicated USB-C power port complete with a built-in status LED for simple charging on modern cables.
* Functional 30-Pin Port: Data operations remain completely stock—connect via the original 30-pin bottom connector to sync, format, or manage music through Apple Music/Finder or iTunes.
* Dual-Boot Configuration: Pre-loaded with Rockbox and the original Apple Stock OS (v1.3).
Technical & Functional Details
* Data vs. Power Routing: The USB-C port handles power only. Music syncing and firmware updates must be performed using the standard 30-pin dock connector.
* Charging Indicator Behavior: The custom USB-C circuit runs independently from Apple's original power management chip. Charging is indicated by the top housing LED and the Rockbox battery indicator, though it may not activate the stock Apple OS charging animation.
* Switching Operating Systems: The unit boots straight into Rockbox. To launch standard Apple OS, press and hold Menu + Select until the screen turns off, then hold Menu during the reboot sequence until the Apple logo appears.
