Live Microworm Starter Culture – Ideal Food for Guppy, Betta & Other Fish Fry
Microworms are a nutritious, easy-to-culture live food for baby fish and small-mouthed fry. After raising brine shrimp, vinegar eels, moina, daphnia, and other live foods, I’ve found microworms to be one of the easiest and most sustainable options.
I breed guppies and bettas through J7 Aquatics, and microworms are a staple food for my fry during their first 2–3 months. Their tiny size and natural movement make them easy for young fish to eat while encouraging a strong feeding response.
Why Choose Microworms?
• Excellent for guppy, betta, and other fish fry
• Simple and inexpensive to maintain
• Reproduces continuously under proper conditions
• No special equipment required
• Provides a dependable supply of live food
Simple Setup
Add the starter culture to a clean container with a shallow layer of plain oatmeal mixed with hot water. Allow the oatmeal to cool completely, lightly sprinkle with baker’s yeast, and add the microworm culture. Cover with a ventilated lid and keep at approximately 65–75°F.
Microworms generally begin climbing the container walls within a few days. Wipe them from the sides with a clean finger, cotton swab, or small brush and feed them directly to your fish.
For a continuous supply, add a spoonful of oatmeal and baker's yeast every 3-4 weeks. To avoid spoilage, start a fresh culture every 3-4 months.
All orders ship on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid weekend delays and maximize live arrival.
