Original Civil War-era U.S. postal cover, likely dating from the 1860s, addressed to Mr. William G. Caines, Jarrettsville, Harford County, Maryland.
The cover bears a 3¢ George Washington stamp from the 1861 issue, heavily cancelled and still tied to the envelope. This design is commonly associated with Scott #65, although the exact catalog variety has not been professionally authenticated.
The front also includes a faint circular postal marking and handwritten forwarding instructions, adding additional postal-history interest. The reverse is intact with expected age-related wear.
Condition shows toning, staining, edge and corner wear, light creasing, and general handling consistent with a cover more than 150 years old. The stamp has a strong cancellation and visible wear. Please review all photos carefully for exact condition and postal markings.
