This listing is for a genuine 1863 Confederate States of America $10 note (Type T-59 / Criswell 437), dated April 6th, 1863, Richmond, Virginia. 2nd Series. Serial number 37930.
The note features the classic design with the proposed South Carolina State Capitol building at center and a portrait of R.M.T. Hunter (Confederate Secretary of State) at lower right. Vertical “TEN” panel and “2nd Series” at left. Printed by Evans & Cogswell / engraved by Keatinge & Ball. Black face with blue reverse (ornate X pattern).
It is attractively presented in a clear acrylic display frame lettered “CSA FIRE CURRENCY” in orange. Includes the original Certificate of Authenticity signed by Frederick J. Bart (September 2001) stating the note is authentic and originated with the “Historic Hoard of Confederate Currency” salvaged from the Burning of Atlanta by General William T. Sherman in November 1864. Denomination, date, and serial are filled in by hand on the COA.
Condition: Circulated with expected age toning, folds, and minor wear consistent with a genuine Civil War-era note that saw use. Still displays well with clear design details and strong overall eye appeal in the frame. Not professionally graded.
