1890\'s Antique Vaseline Glass Apothecary Bottle Jar Stopper Diamond Cut w Pontil:
$99.00

Hello dear customers,

Up for sale from a private collection of antiques is this rare late 19th-century Austrian vaseline uranium glass stopper, made for a large apothecary, pharmaceutical or laboratory bottle/jar.

The stopper is beautifully made from hand-blown yellow-green vaseline glass, featuring a substantial ground fitting cone and an impressive wide diamond-faceted top. The underside retains evidence of traditional hand finishing, including the pontil area.

In my opinion, this piece was produced in Austria for Hermann Steinbuch, the well-known Vienna supplier of pharmaceutical, chemical and laboratory apparatus and equipment, during the late 19th century.

The glass has the characteristic yellow-green appearance associated with early vaseline glass and has been UV tested, producing an exceptionally strong and vivid fluorescent green glow under ultraviolet light, as shown in the photographs.

This is a particularly unusual survivor, as large laboratory and apothecary bottle stoppers were frequently separated from their original vessels or damaged over the course of more than a century.

The stopper is in excellent antique condition for its age, with expected minor signs of age and use. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the item description. The buyer will receive exactly the item shown in the photographs.

Measurements:

Overall top diameter: 72 mm (2.83\")

Overall height: 58 mm (2.28\")

Fitting cone:

Height: 34 mm (1.34\")

Diameter at upper section: 46 mm (1.81\")

Diameter at lower end: 43 mm (1.69\")

A rare and highly decorative piece of 19th-century European pharmaceutical and laboratory glassware, particularly interesting for collectors of vaseline/uranium glass, antique apothecary equipment and scientific instruments.
