Up for sale today is the coveted 1928 $2 Plain Series Star Note. These 1928 Plain Series with the Tate-Mellon signatures were the very first small size notes printed. The 1928 notes are also the only ones to carry the treasury seal on the left. This first signature was a very short print run, as this was made in the depths of the Great Depression when there was very little demand for new currency. As such, there were extremely few Star Notes printed for this run and only a tiny fraction of those even exist today. This is one of the key Star Notes of the whole $2 series. This note features a great low 5 digit serial number, so it was truly among the first small size notes printed.
The note grades around Very Fine 20 in my opinion. It is completely intact with no missing corners, which is tough to find on these notes. Margins and corners are still pretty clean and sharp. It does have some minor reddish staining. Please check pics and judge condition for yourself. Lists for $400 in VF in the Schwartz / Lindquist book Standard Guide to Small Size US Paper Money. Currently the only other one of these listed is going for $1,896. Save yourself some money here! Thanks for looking and have a great day!!!
