Welcome to Second Stories! Today we are thrilled to offer a remarkable piece of early Hollywood Western history: an authentic, 1930s "Tom Mix and Tony" wooden ride-on pull toy. Manufactured by the renowned Mengel Playthings division of The Mengel Company in St. Louis, Missouri, this rare piece is a dream find for Western memorabilia enthusiasts and antique toy collectors alike.A Piece of Western Hollywood HistoryLong before modern superhero franchises, Tom Mix reigned supreme as Hollywood’s very first mega-star cowboy. Appearing in nearly 300 silent and early sound films, his legendary status was paired perfectly with "Tony the Wonder Horse"—his famously intelligent equine companion who performed incredible stunts on screen. This beautifully designed toy pays tribute to that iconic duo. While most surviving examples from this era are found on curved wooden rocking arches, this specific piece features the far more elusive wheeled pull-toy/ride-on chassis platform. It stands proudly on its original red-painted wooden baseboard, secured by sturdy metal struts and original wooden wheels.Exquisite Details & Branding

• Stunning Double-Sided Graphics: The horse features incredibly sharp, bold black-and-white stenciled/lithographed art depicting Tony in full Western tack. The rear flank showcases a crisp, clear portrait emblem of Tom Mix wearing his signature wide-brimmed cowboy hat.
• Fully Visible Factory Stamp: Flipping to the baseboard reveals the original, highly legible manufacturer stamp: "The Mengel Co., Inc. 1900 N. Market St., St. Louis, MO." This clear mark is an absolute goldmine for verification and collector provenance.
• Original Elements: This piece still retains its original woven fabric reins wrapped gently around the neck and mouth.
