Up for sale is an exceptionally unusual 1972 Topps #79 Red Sox Rookie Stars card featuring Carlton Fisk, Cecil Cooper, and Mike Garman, authenticated and encapsulated by SGC.
What makes this card special is the factory WRONG BACK error. Instead of the normal #79 reverse, this card was produced with a Burt Hooton back.
SGC has authenticated the card and specifically identified the error directly on the label:
“1972 TOPPS #79 COOPER/FISK (WRONG BACK – B. HOOTON)”
SGC AUTHENTIC
Cert #0487897
This is an extremely difficult error to find. Wrong-back errors from the 1972 Topps set are known, but examples involving a major Hall of Fame rookie card are particularly intriguing. Carlton Fisk is a Baseball Hall of Famer, while Cecil Cooper went on to become a 5× All-Star.
The combination makes this a fantastic piece for a:
* Carlton Fisk collection
* 1972 Topps master set
* Vintage baseball collection
* Error/misprint collection
* Hall of Fame rookie collection
* SGC collection
This is not the standard 1972 Topps #79 Fisk rookie. The wrong back is the key feature of this card and is recognized as such on the SGC label.
Due to the unusual nature and apparent scarcity of this error, traditional price guides and normal #79 sales are not directly comparable.
Please examine the photos carefully for the exact condition of the card and holder. You will receive the exact SGC-certified card pictured.
A truly unusual opportunity to own a vintage Topps production error featuring one of the most recognizable rookie cards of the 1970s.
