1997 Blues Tour Poster SIGNED Greg Fingers Taylor Johnny Sansone Jimmy Buffet
Large, measuring approx. 22\" x 14\".
This a very rare boxing style event poster from a Tour that featured two well known and highly accomplished Blues Harmonica players. Although AI research states this is a tour stop at Sharkey\'s in Ohio, I note that the poster has a prominent ad at the bottom for a boxing training and gym facility in New Orleans (both of these musicians spent much of their careers in New Orleans). My research also provided me with info on a Sharkey\'s Reef and Dance Club in New Orleans operating during this time, so I am not sure this may not have been a special event at that venue.
PLEASE NOTE: POSTER IS PHOTOGRAPHED IN THE FRAME WE ACQUIRED IT IN AND WE LEFT IT IN IT FOR SECURITY, BUT WE ARE SHIPPING IT WITHOUT THE FRAME AS IT IS NOT IN GOOD CONDITION AND WE WOULDN\'T WANT THE GLASS (IF BROKEN) TO DAMAGE THE POSTER. SO FRAMING OF SOME SORT WITH BE REQUIRED AT YOUR END.
This poster promotes the \"Harmonica Heavyweight Bout\" tour stop featuring Mississippi blues & Jimmy Buffett legend Greg \"Fingers\" Taylor going up against New Orleans blues staple \"Jumpin\' \" Johnny Sansone.
The Sharkey\'s Context• The Venue: Sharkey’s Reef was a staple of the 1990s New Orleans nightlife, known for its massive outdoor deck, volleyball courts, and hosting high-energy roots, rock, and blues bands right by the water.
• The Atmosphere: Because Jumpin\' Johnny Sansone relocated to New Orleans in 1990 and Greg \"Fingers\" Taylor was frequently in town recording or playing with Jimmy Buffett\'s Coral Reefer Band (including tracking at the nearby Margaritaville Cafe on Decatur Street), Sharkey\'s served as the perfect open-air venue for their legendary \"harp duels\" and blues jams.
• The Setup: These mid-to-late 1990s shows were structured as co-billed blues revues where both virtuosos would play individual sets before joining forces on stage to close out the night.
AUTOGRAPH DETAILS:The center of the poster features a bold, clear dual-signature from both legendary harmonica players in black marker. With the passing of long-time Coral Reefer Band member Greg \"Fingers\" Taylor in 2023, authentic signed pieces of his solo blues career have become highly sought after by blues purists and Jimmy Buffett \"Parrotheads\" alike.
FEATURED ARTIST BACKGROUNDS:
1. GREG \"FINGERS\" TAYLOR (1952–2023)Born in Kansas and raised in Mississippi, Taylor mastered the harmonica by blending traditional Chicago harmonica styling with Mississippi Delta roots. He is globally famous as a foundational, 26-year member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, where his soulful harmonica work defined Buffett\'s tropical rock sound from 1974 until 2000. Outside of his work with Buffett, Taylor was a deeply respected blues purist, releasing several acclaimed solo blues albums on the Ripete label and earning an induction into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame.
2. \"JUMPIN\'\" JOHNNY SANSONE (b. 1957)Raised in a musical family, Sansone studied harmonica directly under blues legends James Cotton and Junior Wells. After relocating to New Orleans in 1990, he immersed himself in the local culture, picked up the accordion, and forged a unique signature style blending heavy Delta blues with Louisiana swamp rock, Zydeco, and Cajun music. His breakthrough album led him to sign with Bullseye Blues (as noted on the poster), and he remains a prominent multi-time Blues Music Award winner and a staple of the New Orleans roots music scene today.
CONDITION NOTES:- Colors remain vivid with the classic retro blue/teal ink styling striking a great visual profile. There is some age wear along edges and some creases, etc. Doesn\'t effect the graphics or image. I am sure this graced the box office at the event center or a nearby establishment as an advertisement of the even.
Seller Note: Please inspect photos for edge wear/scuffs typical of authentic, venue-used promotional posters from this era.]
