Obverse: Features the Ashoka Lion Capital emblem sitting above the national motto "Satyameva Jayate" (Truth alone triumphs) written in Devanagari script, flanked by "भारत" (Bharat) and "INDIA".
Reverse: Features the large stylized numeral 5, flanked by lotus flowers, with the text "रुपये" (Rupaye) and "RUPEES" above and below the numeral, over the mint year 1999.
Beneath the "1999" date, there is a visible stylized decorative emblem (a floral/patterned shape inside a small circle or frame) indicating that it was struck at the Kolkata (Calcutta) Mint.
Edge: This is a security edge variety (KM# 154.1), which consists of a recessed center groove filled with a repeating pattern of dots and alternately slanting raised bars to deter counterfeiting and rim shaving.
