Description
19th century Chinese Qing dynasty ink calligraphy poem by XUHUN
Overview:
This manuscript primarily features a meticulous running-script (Xing Shu) transcription and analytical study by Xu Chengxian, focusing on the masterpiece Xianyang Cheng Donglou (The East Tower of Xianyang City) by the renowned late-Tang Dynasty poet Xu Hun.• Core Poetic Verse (Visible in the text):
- \"Ascending the high tower brings ten thousand miles of sorrow, while the reeds and willows resemble a misty river islet.\"
- \"As clouds rise from the stream, the sun sinks behind the pavilion; as the mountain storm approaches, wind fills the tower.\" (This introduces one of the most celebrated idioms in Chinese literary history: \"The wind sweeping through the tower heralds a rising storm in the mountains.\")
- \"Birds descend upon the overgrown greens of the Qin palace at dusk; cicadas chirp among the yellowing autumn leaves of the Han courts.\"
• Literary and Political Exposition (Left/Second Half):
- The subsequent text incorporates historical references such as \"People of Han and Su,\" \"Emperor Wu,\" and \"The Thirty-Six Tales of the Tuolin Woods.\" Here, the author transitions from the poem into a literati discourse and policy commentary (Celun). By reflecting upon the historical rise and fall of the Han and Tang dynasties, the author conveys a profound, \"desolate yet sublime\" (Cangliang Beizhuang) sense of patriotic sentiment, coupled with philosophical deliberations on statecraft and imperial governance.
