2 Antique Young Edinburgh Surgical Instrument Metal Cases Victorian Medical For Sale

Two separate antique metal surgical or medical instrument cases, offered together as one lot.The larger circular screw-top case is embossed:“YOUNG – SURGICAL INSTRUMENT MAKERS – EDINBURGH”Young was a noted Edinburgh manufacturer of surgical instruments operating over several generations. This case is believed to date from the late Victorian period, approximately 1860–1900.The second item is a separate narrow cylindrical metal case with a removable cap marked with a single letter “V”. Its maker and original purpose are unknown. The “V” may represent an instrument type, size or ownership mark. It is not being attributed to Young of Edinburgh.Both cases are empty and their original instruments are missing. They may have held small surgical needles, probes, blades or other medical instruments.Condition is consistent with considerable age, including tarnishing, scratches, plating wear, staining, discolouration and areas of corrosion.
