THE SIGNATURE:
A large, confident black-ink signature that runs the full width of the cut, with two inscriptions added by Pilote himself: “H.O.F. 75” for his 1975 induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and “#3” for the sweater number he wore in Chicago. Dual-inscribed cuts are considerably harder to find than a bare signature, and Pilote died in 2017, so the supply is now fixed.
ABOUT PIERRE PILOTE:
Pierre Pilote (1931–2017) was one of the great defencemen of the Original Six era. He captained the Chicago Black Hawks for seven seasons, won the Stanley Cup in 1961, and took the Norris Trophy as the league’s best defenceman three years running in 1963, 1964 and 1965. He was named to the First All-Star Team five times, played in eight All-Star Games, and once appeared in 376 consecutive games. Over 890 career games he recorded 80 goals and 418 assists for 498 points from the blue line. Hockey Hall of Fame, 1975.
