A solitary tree emerges from a hazy hillside, distant ridges dissolve almost completely into atmosphere, and an unusually shaped tree stretches across an open landscape. The locations may differ, but the photographs share a remarkably similar visual language—soft focus, muted silver-gray tones, isolated forms and a sense of distance.
These came from a larger collection of early photographic prints and were selected together because of the visual relationship between the three images.
The prints show variations in photographic paper, surface and tonality consistent with individually made period photographs. They have expected age-related wear, including some edge/corner wear, surface marks, discoloration and/or slight curling. Please see all photographs for condition and the backs of the prints.
