Original and very rare early first season script from the classic series CHARLIE'S ANGELS from 1976. Starring Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Farrah Fawcett, this show was a massive hit upon its’ debut, made huge stars of the three actresses, and launched the “Farrah phenomenon.”
March 21st marks the 50th anniversary of the original broadcast of the pilot,with a reunion event at the Dolby Theatre and Paley Honors in May.
The episode, LADY KILLER, is a classic example of what became known as “jiggle TV” as the storyline involves the murder of centerfolds working as “Felines” in a nightclub (clearly inspired by Playboy Bunnies). Jill goes undercover as one and promptly becomes the next target.
This is a 2nd draft dated September 13,1976. The script is 66 all blue pages.
What makes this particular script unique is it is signed by actress MARTHA SMITH, a then unknown guest starring as the feline who is murdered in the opening scene. Although they don’t share any scenes together, Smith later co-starred with KATE JACKSON in the highly successful series SCARECROW & MRS KING.
Smith humorously added the inscription, “one of my first 5 being killed roles!,” referring to the early career roles many actresses of the era faced on TV where an attractive woman is killed in an early scene (a sentiment also noted by future Angel CHERYL LADD).
FUN FACTThe distinctive red costume worn by the Feline’s was later used in the first episode Ladd filmed to replace Farrah, CIRCUS OF TERROR.
