(Late Edo, Early Meiji.)* Jugyokusai Gyokumin (玉民) was a highly skilled Japanese master carver of netsuke (miniature structural sculptures used as button-like toggles) who was active during the mid-to-late 19th century (the late Edo and Meiji periods).Operating primarily in the Tokyo (Edo) region, Gyokumin belonged to the prominent Jugyoku and Komin carving lineage, which is renowned for its expressive realism and playful narratives.* This hand-carved and Signed wooden okimono representing Jurojin (or Fukurokuju), one of the Seven Lucky Gods in East Asian folklore.* This figure is commonly placed in homes as a talisman to welcome good health, fulfillment, and a long life.* The Tall Head / Elongated Skull: The distinctive, disproportionately tall cap and forehead represent immense wisdom and longevity.The Sacred Peach: He is holding a large peach close to his chest with both hands. In traditional iconography, the peach represents immortality and vitality.The Flowing Robe: He wears classical, patterned scholar robes with intricate geometric carvings visible along the lapels and sleeves.* CONDITION:Natural Wood Checkings: Vertical stress cracks (checking) is visible on the left side of his tall cap and running down the side of his robe.
