A great little piece of American sports history — and a full set of six.
These vintage rocks glasses reproduce the February 23, 1980 New York Times front page announcing the United States\' stunning 4–3 Olympic hockey victory over the Soviet Union.
For anyone who remembers 1980, this was much more than another hockey game. The heavily favored Soviet team was expected to win, and the young American team\'s victory became one of those rare sporting moments that seemed to have the whole country celebrating together. The U.S. went on to defeat Finland and capture Olympic gold.
The set includes six matching glasses, and their condition is exceptional. The newspaper graphics remain remarkably crisp, clean and glossy, with none of the dull, heavily worn appearance you often see on decorated vintage glassware. Even under close inspection, these present beautifully. They appear to have seen very little use, and if they were washed over the years, they were certainly treated gently.
All six glasses are clean and display wonderfully as a set. Please see the photos for the excellent condition and details of the newspaper design.
A terrific set for a hockey collector, Olympic memorabilia collection, sports bar, home bar, or anyone who remembers exactly what that February victory felt like.
