A Hasui Japanese koban woodblock print from \"Shinto and Its Architecture\" For Sale

Offered for sale is a rare lifetime koban-size, or \"large postcard-size\", woodblock print designed by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). The print is one of twelve Hasui images that were originally designed for, and tipped into, the 1936 book \"Shinto and Its Architecture\" by Akiyama Aisaburo (active circa 1916-1940). The 1936 edition of \"Shinto and Its Architecture was published by the Japan Welcome Society, Tokyo, Japan. The book was republished in 1955 by the Tokyo News Service using the original blocks. This print is from the 1955 second edition. The print is titled \"Hie Shrine, Tokyo, After a Shower\" and was printed by the S. Watanabe Color Print Company, Tokyo, Japan.
The print is tipped at the top to its backing sheet. The print is in fine condition. The impression and registration are very good. The colored pigments remain vivid and the bleed through of the pigments onto the obverse is strong. The red Hasui seal and the title of the print are stamped on the lower right-hand corner of the printed image. The print measures 4 29/32 inches by 7 9/32 inches, including the margins, and the printed image measures 4 17/32 inches by 6 29/32 inches.
