Opened in 1967 in San Francisco, A Taste of Leather is historically recognized as the first "in-bar" leather shop at Febe's and as a pioneering cornerstone of the South of Market (SOMA) queer leather subculture.
By the mid-1970s, it operated as a massive erotic department store on Folsom Street, featuring custom leather apparel, a jewelry boutique, a furniture department, and a boot and hat shop.
The store outfitted generations of leathermen in iconic gear like harnesses, chaps, and customized motorcycle wear, helping shape the visual identity of the global leather and kink community before closing in the 1990s.
