ANTIQUE FRENCH ART NOUVEAU BRONZE MEDALLION BY GEORGES PRUD\'HOMME C. 1889 RARE For Sale

Antique French Art Nouveau bronze medallion featuring a beautiful seated female figure/goddess holding a staff with a serpent (caduceus) next to an anchor and other maritime imagery. Inscribed City of LaRochele, France commemorating the Council General and its Department of Municipal Counselors founded in 1789. Sculpted by Georges Henri Prud\'homme (1873-1947), 63mm x 45mm, 57.08 grams. c. 1889. Condition of this rare French medallion is in excellent used condition w/ blemishes consistent with its age. The edge is hallmarked \"BRONZE\" with the Paris Mint logo/symbol. Please carefully review all photos for detailed surface/rim conditions and markings as they are part and parcel of the description and therefore this medallion is \"as is\".
These European medallions were composed of a much higher copper content thus rendering crisp details. They were also sculpted by some of the finest artists of their time. Whenever possible I kept the original patina on these beautiful medallions. However, many times I found it necessary to restore the medallions in order to give you the customer a fair and accurate description of their condition and to highlight the intricate details of these fine works of art. Rest assured that the original patina will return naturally within several years (minus the grime, paint, lacquer, ink, rust, etc.). If you prefer to keep them in a more \"restored\" condition, use a high-quality polishing agent like \'Flitz\'.
