Portrait Miniature of a Young Lady, Empire style, circa 1850s.Dear collectors,Noblesse-Collectionis pleased to propose you this charming French portraitminiature of a young lady, painted circa 1850 in the taste of the French Empire period.
The sitter is represented in an elegant black dress with a low neckline and delicate transparentsleeves, her elaborate curled hairstyle partly covered by a long dark veil. She is portrayed beforea finely painted landscape opening onto a body of water, with a sailing ship visible in the distance.
The composition and costume deliberately recall the elegance and Neoclassical fashion of theFirst French Empire, suggesting that the miniature was probably inspired by, or copied from, anearlier portrait of the early 19th century.
The reverse bears old handwritten inscriptions identifying the sitter as “Lady Montagu”, mentioningGeneva and the date 1803, together with an old attribution to Bouvier. These inscriptions are reportedfor historical interest only. Their accuracy cannot be verified and they should not be regarded asestablishing either the identity of the sitter, the date of execution or an attribution to an artist.

Condition: The miniature is in good antique condition, with some age-related wear visible in thephotographs. The brass frame shows some oxidation. Following careful removal and reassembly,the original rear cardboard backing has been secured inside the brass frame. As a result, there isslight movement of the protective glass within the frame when handled. This does not affect ordamage the miniature itself. Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an integralpart of the condition description.
