It features episodes 1-14 (up to page 279 of volume 1) of the serialization, exactly as they were when it was first published, starting in Young Magazine, just two years after its launch.

This historic work, which had a profound impact on the manga world, is renowned for its level of perfection, but the author actually polished it considerably when it was published in book form.

The Young Magazine edition of \"AKIRA\" was polished and completed through additions, corrections, deletions, replacements, page and panel rearrangements, finishing touches, and new illustrations, and is still read today, 40 years after its first publication.

Notably, the cover illustrations for each serialized episode have been removed from the book version.

However, for this complete works edition, Otomo\'s work has been arranged by era, allowing readers to trace his evolution as an artist. In line with this concept, the \"serialized version\" has been published in a format that has been restored as much as possible to the way it was when it was serialized, including the frontispieces.
While some parts cannot be restored to their original state due to the original illustrations no longer existing or the manuscripts having been edited directly, the goal for the complete works edition is to \"restore them to their original state as much as possible.\"
