Royal Ballet Principal Natalia Osipova stars in the demanding dual role of Grand Duchess Anastasia / Anna Anderson. MacMillan’s haunting ballet explores the extraordinary story of Anna Anderson, who claimed to be the surviving Grand Duchess Anastasia following the Russian Revolution and murder of the Romanov royal family.
The production combines MacMillan’s choreography with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Bohuslav Martinů, performed by the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House under conductor Simon Hewett.
The cast also includes Marianela Nuñez, Federico Bonelli, Edward Watson, Thiago Soares, Christina Arestis and Christopher Saunders.
The Financial Times awarded the performance ★★★★★, praising Osipova’s commanding performance as well as the company, Bob Crowley’s designs and Hewett’s interpretation of the score.
