Based on the No. 766 pattern mark and matching documented examples, this child-sized transferware cup is attributed to Charles Allerton & Sons of Staffordshire, England. The pattern dates to approximately the 1870s–1890s, making the cup well over 100 years old.
Charming antique blue-and-white transferware child’s cup featuring detailed birds, animals, flowers and decorative framed scenes. It has an unusual squared handle and a beautifully aged appearance.
The underside is marked “No. 766” with an additional numbered mark. The exact maker and age are unknown.
Measurements:
• Approximately 2 inches tall
• Approximately 2¼ inches across the mouth
• Approximately 1¾ inches across the bottom
Condition: Displays extensive age-related glaze crazing throughout, discoloration, surface wear and fading consistent with age. There is one visible hairline crack extending down from the inside rim. The cup still feels sturdy, but because of the crack and age, it is recommended for decorative or display use only. Please review all photographs closely for condition.
