Authentic Late Victorian (Circa 1880s–1890s) Black Velvet Outerwear Piece
Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic piece of late 19th-century fashion history. This dark velvet jacket features heavy military-inspired passementerie gimp trim, a delicate silk thread fringe on the sleeves, and ornate braided frog closures down the front.
Because of its current condition, this garment is being sold strictly AS-IS as an archival textile study piece, a reference for historical pattern-makers, or for careful historic restoration. It is not recommended for modern wear due to the fragile nature of the 140-year-old construction threads.
CONDITION DISCLOSURE (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):This is a true antique item and shows significant structural vulnerabilities standard for its age:
Closures: Features ornate braided frog closures. Please note that one front toggle is completely missing (clearly shown in the photos). Out of caution for the brittle nature of the antique threads, the remaining closures have deliberately been left unfastened to prevent stress.
Hemline: The bottom hemline shows significant fraying, breakdown, and shattering with loose structural threads exposed.
