Antique cast iron fluting/pleating iron, patented 1886, featuring a heavy cast-iron base, geared/crimped pressing surfaces, and an old wooden handle.
These early laundry tools were used to press decorative ruffles, pleats and fluted edges into clothing and linens, particularly collars, cuffs and other detailed fabric work. The underside is clearly cast with “PAT’D 1886.” The upper section also retains raised lettering, though age and surface oxidation make portions difficult to read.
This is a genuine old piece with loads of primitive character and would make an excellent addition to an antique laundry, sad iron, Victorian household, country store or cast-iron collection.
Condition: Antique, unrestored condition with substantial surface rust, oxidation, finish loss and wear consistent with its age. Wooden handle shows age and wear. Please review all photos closely for exact condition and completeness. Sold as a collectible/display piece; functionality has not been tested.
