This 136-year-old volume is offered in Fair to Good antiquarian condition, showing wear consistent with heavy use as a Victorian children's book.
• Cover & Exterior: The iconic illustrated front cover remains bright and excellent for display, though it shows moderate shelf wear and fraying along the edges and corners. The cloth spine cover is splitting along the exterior hinge but is currently still held together by original binding threads. Loose strings are present near the split.
• Binding & Interior: Due to the spine split, the text block requires fragile, careful handling. The first few pages—specifically the full-page frontispiece illustration and the table of contents pages—are completely loose/detached from the binding.
• Pages: The internal pages show light edge wear and a natural aged patina/discoloration (mild toning) expected of late 19th-century paper. No heavy scribbling, major text loss, or severe damp staining observed.
This is a beautiful, complete candidate for professional restoration, a stunning shelf display piece, or a wonderful addition to a fairy tale collection. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully to assess the condition details for yourself.
