Original late-19th-century The Maltine Manufacturing Co. amber medicine bottle from New York, dating to approximately the 1890s. This uncommon smaller Maltine form is boldly embossed “THE MALTINE MFG CO / NEW YORK” and differs from the more frequently encountered larger Maltine “CHEMISTS” bottles.The bottle is formed in rich dark reddish amber glass with strong recessed-panel embossing, rounded shoulders, a beveled rectangular form, and an early cork-style mouth. In natural light, the glass develops particularly attractive deep red, tobacco-amber, and burgundy tones.The Maltine Manufacturing Company was established in New York in 1878 and operated under that corporate name during the late 19th century.
