A truly charming piece of late-Victorian history with wonderful provenance! This large 6-inch French porcelain dresser box features an exquisite hand-painted scene of two children or cherubs on a garden bench. What makes this piece incredibly special is the complete artist documentation on the base. It is inscribed in red script: "To Mary Lee Paul from A.M. Gardner. Dec. 1897." The artist also signed the top of the lid with the initials "A.M.G." hidden in the gold gilt. The base bears the historical "FRANCE" export stamp.
BONUS HISTORICAL INCLUSION:
Incredibly, this box still contains its original 1897 antique silk-trimmed, lace-edged down powder puff / vanity insert. While the silk lining shows expected age fraying and shattering characteristic of 130-year-old textiles, it is an exceptionally rare survivor that completes the true history of this piece.
Size: Approx. 6 inches wide by 3 inches tall.
Condition Note:
This heirloom is priced to reflect its antique journey and has character flaws. It is sold AS-IS with significant chipping along the lid's interior rim and a few notable chips on the exterior gold rim line (visible when closed—see photos).
Despite the rim damage, the central artwork is perfectly preserved and untouched. It makes a magnificent shabby-chic display piece, photography prop, or vanity storage jar when rotated to show its best side forward!
Please inspect the detailed condition photos carefully before purchasing.
