Beautiful antique Meissen porcelain cup and saucer featuring hand-painted multicolor floral garlands, elaborate gilt scrollwork and a decorative intertwined monogram at the center of the saucer. The cup is equally detailed with floral decoration inside and out, extensive gold embellishment and a delicate period form.
Both the cup and saucer bear underglaze blue crossed-swords marks to the underside. An old paper collector/dealer label on the cup is handwritten “1780,” suggesting a late-18th-century attribution. The label has been left intact as part of the piece\'s history. The exact year has not been independently authenticated.
A particularly lovely example of early Meissen with far more elaborate decoration than many floral cups and saucers from the period. The personalized monogram suggests it may originally have formed part of a privately commissioned service.
