Offered by Odin Art & Collectables is this impressiveantique Hubley Manufacturing Company No. 275 German Shepherdcast-iron doorstop, dating to approximately the late 1920s.
This substantial antique doorstop depicts an alert German Shepherd seatedupright on a rectangular base. The sculpture captures the recognizablecharacteristics of the breed with tall erect ears, an attentive expression,a strong muzzle, large front paws and a long tail resting alongside the body.
Extensive molded detailing gives the dog considerable character. Individualareas of fur are represented around the ears, neck, chest, shoulders, legsand body, while the facial features, eyes, nose, paws and claws are clearlydefined.
The heavy cast-iron body has an attractive agedbronze-colored finish. Warm bronze and copper-coloredhighlights remain visible across the raised portions of the sculpture,contrasting with darker brown and areas of greenish natural patination.The aged surface gives this nearly century-old piece considerable character.
The reverse is open/hollow and was not cast with the same level of finisheddetail as the display side. This is part of the original construction of thedoorstop rather than a missing section.

The casting is marked 275. This number corresponds to theHubley No. 275 German Shepherd documented in references forHubley cast-iron doorstops.
The approximately 9-3/8 inch height, heavy cast-ironconstruction, seated German Shepherd design, rectangular base and open-backconstruction are also consistent with documented examples of Hubley'sNo. 275 German Shepherd doorstop.
Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania became well knownfor its American cast-iron toys and decorative cast-iron objects, includinga large assortment of figural doorstops. Dogs were particularly popularsubjects, and the company's catalog included several different breeds andGerman Shepherd designs.

Condition
Very Good antique condition. No obvious cracks, chips,significant dents, deep gouges or other major damage were found duringinspection.
The surface displays age-appropriate patina, oxidation, finish variationand normal wear associated with an antique cast-iron object approaching100 years of age. The piece could benefit from some additional carefulcleaning; however, we have intentionally avoided aggressive cleaning orpolishing in order to preserve its aged appearance.
Please note: A small amount of surface patina was carefullyremoved from the casting-number area in order to positively read and confirmthe number 275. No attempt was made to polish or refinishthe remainder of the piece.
The reverse is open/hollow and does not have the same finished sculpturaldetail as the front. This is consistent with the construction of the piece.Because the reverse is primarily an unfinished construction area ratherthan a display surface, it was not photographed for the listing.

Muy Buena condición antigua. Durante nuestra inspecciónno encontramos grietas, roturas, abolladuras importantes, hendidurasprofundas ni otros daños mayores evidentes.
La superficie presenta pátina, oxidación, variaciones del acabado y desgastenormal correspondientes a la antigüedad de una pieza de hierro fundido quese aproxima a los 100 años.
