The Child Points at His Father in the Field
Barbizon School · French, 19th century · Oil on canvas, unframed
The little boy is holding out his arm.
He is tiny, dressed in blue with a red cap, and he stands on the path next to his mother. She wears a white bonnet and a green scarf, and she carries a big basket on her arm. They have come out to the field. Further along, a man in a straw hat is bent over a haystack, working. Behind them all the land opens out flat and bright, and the wood begins on the right with one tree too tall for the picture.
