This antique 19th century French Rococo style gilded bronze putti or cherub candleholder is a stunning piece that exudes elegance and sophistication. It is in very good antique condition. Thought to be made in France, this candlestick holder features a beautifully detailed putti and a gorgeous verdigris patina, adding a touch of vintage charm to any room. Perfect for those who appreciate antique original pieces with a French flair. During the mid 20th century, it was incredibly popular to modify antique candlesticks into electric lighting fixtures. The hole in the top of the head and the hole on the putti’s tush served as an entry or exit point for a threaded steel rod or electrical wiring to travel through the body of the cherub figurine. A lamp socket would sit directly inside or on top of the floral candle cup, and the cord would be routed through the figure down to the base.
