Beautiful, authentic antique 19th-century French copper saute pan (rondeau / plat a sauter). This heavy-gauge culinary piece showcases the incredible, robust craftsmanship of mid-to-late 1800s French coppersmiths.
Meticulously hand-crafted, the pan features a distinct hand-hammered ("martele") bottom and a classic seamed rim. The substantial wrought-iron side handles are securely fastened by thick, irregular, hand-set copper rivets. Stamped clearly near the handle base is the original French circular maker's mark containing the size stamp "24", which perfectly matches its 24-centimeter (approx. 10-inch) rim diameter.
Whether you are an avid collector of historical culinary pieces or looking for a stunning, rustic accent for a farmhouse kitchen, this French rondeau brings incredible character and history.
DIMENSIONS:
• Rim Diameter: 10 inches (24 cm)
• Depth/Height: 3 inches
• Handle to Handle: Approx. 14 inches
CONDITION:
Good antique structural condition. The copper has a gorgeous, unpolished aged patina with minor surface scratches and superficial scuffs consistent with over a century of use. The interior features its original old tin lining, which exhibits heavy darkening, oxidation, and wear that exposes the underlying copper.
Please note: Because of the worn tin lining, this pan is being sold in "as-is" condition as a decorative display piece. It is NOT safe for direct cooking in its current state. To restore it for active kitchen use, it will require a professional cleaning and re-tinning.
