Antique 5” Frozen Charlotte Doll Parian Finish 1860–1880 Blue Eyes
This beautiful early Frozen Charlotte doll measures approximately 5 inches tall and dates to about 1860–1880. Molded in one piece, she has a pale, matte Parian finish and an exceptionally appealing face. Her finely painted blue eyes, delicate brows, rosy cheeks, and tiny mouth give her a gentle expression. Blond molded hair frames her face in soft waves, with detailed curls sculpted across the back. Her small hands and bare feet are also carefully molded.
Frozen Charlotte dolls were jointless porcelain figures made in a variety of sizes during the 19th century. While many surviving examples are quite simply painted, this one is especially lovely for the quality of her facial painting and molded hairstyle. She would display beautifully as she is or could be dressed in an appropriate antique costume.
There is a small spot of paint loss near the front of her hair, along with minor age-related marks and wear. A red 7 appears on the underside of one foot. I have not identified a maker. Please review all photographs closely as part of the condition description.
