Antique California Pottery Catalina Island Pottery Taylor Tilery Tile-Top Table
Vintage 1920s–1930s California Pottery Tile-Top Side Table – Catalina Island Pottery or Taylor Tile – Red Clay Body
Beautiful original California Spanish Colonial Revival / Mission style tile-top side table from the golden era of Southern California pottery (circa 1920s–1930s). The top features four large decorative tiles forming a striking quatrefoil/clover design with bold orange borders, deep cobalt/black leaves and florals, sunny yellow accents, and turquoise/teal highlights on a warm brown ground. These are bordered by solid dark (black/deep green) rectangular tiles set into a richly carved wooden frame.
The tiles are classic California production—made on a red clay body (visible where the glaze is chipped). This is consistent with early Catalina Island Pottery (which used the island’s native red clay in its earlier years) or Taylor Tile / Taylor Tilery of Santa Monica (known for red-clay tiles and for supplying tabletops to Los Angeles furniture makers). The raised-line
/ cuenca-style separation of the colors is typical of the period’s best work. The wooden base has turned legs, a carved apron with repeating motifs, and a lower stretcher with decorative carving. Underside of the top has a stamped mark “NO-23G” and an old paper sticker marked “147.”
This is a classic California bungalow / Spanish Revival piece that looks great as an accent table, plant stand, or beside a sofa or chair. Highly collectible category—similar Catalina and Taylor tile tables regularly appear in high-end antique and California pottery sales.

One chip on a decorative tile (in the area of one of the floral/pitcher-like motifs) that exposes the underlying red clay body.
Typical fine crazing throughout the glazed surfaces (common and desirable on these period tiles).
Some surface scratches, light wear to the glaze, and minor losses/wear to the old grout in places.
Wood shows a nice aged patina, some scratches, nicks, and wear consistent with nearly 100 years of use; the finish is original and has not been refinished. Structure is sound and stable.
