Beautiful Chinese Famille Rose Enameled Porcelain Plaque - Wang Zhaojun
Up for sale is a stunning, vintage-to-antique Chinese hand-painted porcelain plaque elegantly mounted in its original dark hardwood frame. The plaque features exceptional detail executed in vibrant Famille Rose enamels. Artistic & Cultural Motif:
The plaque beautifully illustrates the classic historical narrative **"Zhaojun Chu Sai" (昭君出塞)**, depicting Lady Wang Zhaojun—one of the legendary Four Great Beauties of Ancient China—on her poignant journey to the northern frontier. She is shown in her iconic red fur-lined hooded cloak, cradling a Pipa (Chinese lute) which she used to play songs of longing for her homeland.
Calligraphy & Inscriptions:
The lower-right quadrant features crisp poetic calligraphy that reads:
* **"昭君出塞"** (Zhaojun Departs Across the Frontier)
* **"作于珠山"** (Made/Painted at Zhushan) – Zhushan is the prestigious historical epicenter of porcelain master artists in Jingdezhen, China.
* Includes a cyclical year date and an iron-red artist's seal mark.
Frame & Condition Details:
* **Frame:** Crafted from a rich, highly-grained dark hardwood (possessing a smooth, beautiful luster) and fitted with a traditional ornamental brass ruyi-head hanging bracket at the top.
* **Backing:** The reverse reveals an authentic, untouched inset wood paneled backing typical of early-to-mid 20th-century craftsmanship.
* **Condition:** Excellent condition. The porcelain plaque itself is completely free of cracks, chips, or repairs. The enamels remain bright and crisp. The wood frame shows wonderful natural patina and tight joints.
