A fabulous antique Edwardian solid 18k gold carved carrier pigeon intaglio seal pinky or signet ring, dating to circa 1915.The age, design and subject of this wonderful signet ring suggests it was most likely worn by a Signal Corps troop responsible for handling carrier pigeons in WWI, known as \'Pigeoneers\' they were responsible for the care of the unsung heroes of the war: carrier pigeons successfully completed 95% of their missions and saved hundreds of lives such as the famous Cher Ami who despite being heavily wounded on the journey got his message through to base and so saved 194 trapped American soldiers.This lovely antique Edwardian solid 18k yellow gold intaglio seal signet ring is classic in form with a gentle oval shape face deeply carved with a fabulous carrier pigeon, the bird with fine details all over even depicting individual feathers, the ring with graduating shoulders and a classic band-a fantastic signet ring steeped in history! The ring is stamped \'18CT\' inside the band and XRF tests for at least 18k gold.The ring is approximately a size 4 3/4.The ring measures approximately 9.5mm x 8mm across the face. The ring rises about 1mm above the finger and weighs approximately 2.65 grams.The ring is in very good condition with all over general wear.
