A fine and rare 19th-century French bronze bas-relief medallion depicting a dramatic lion hunt scene, signed by sculptor Gaetan Faraoni and published by the prestigious Parisian house Léopold Oudry, Propriétaire Éditeur, dated 1869.
The relief scene shows a horseman armed with a lance and a warrior armed with an axe attacking a lion — a subject deeply rooted in the Romantic and Orientalist tradition made famous by Eugène Delacroix and Peter Paul Rubens. The composition is bold and dynamic, with exceptional depth of relief and fine detail throughout.
